9 Managing EVI
Ethernet Virtual Interconnect (EVI) is a MAC-in-IP technology that provides Layer 2 connectivity
between distant Layer 2 network sites across an IP routed network.
EVI links between edge devices at different sites form an EVI network, as shown in Figure 18.

EVI deployment and maintenance
You can use VFM to deploy EVI networks and maintain basic EVI parameters. To tune EVI ISIS and
network optimization parameters such as ARP flooding suppression, you must use the CLI of each
EVI device.
