HP Insight Control Virtual Machine Management 6.2 User Guide

are still uncleared events associated with the old database object, so it is renamed to the serial number of
the virtual machine so that you can still view these events. After you have viewed and cleared all the events
associated with the system, the events can be deleted from the database.
Workaround
Follow the naming restrictions for the complex that are outlined in the
Naming Restrictions
document and,
if using Systems Insight Manager 5.1.0.1 or later, read and follow the naming restrictions found in the
DISCOVERY section of the <HP SIM Installed Path>/doc/en/hpsim-readMe.pdf file. This
.pdf file also discusses some cases when orphan nodes cannot be prevented, and what you can do to prevent
those that can be prevented. For example, if you know a system subtype of a managed system is going to
be changed (such as converting a virtual partition to a virtual machine), delete the system from the CMS
before the change, and then re-add the system after the system has been reconfigured.
Failed host recovery on master Citrix XenServer host of the HA disabled resource
pool fails
Insight Control virtual machine management does not support failed host recovery on the master of the Citrix
Resource Pool unless a new master is selected, as documented in the
Citrix XenServer Guide
.
When the master host in a Citrix XenServer resource pools fails, login to the slave host that you want to
become the master, and execute the following commands:
xe pool-emergency-transition-to-master
xe pool-recover-slaves
Insight Control virtual machine management detects the new master of the resource pool. You should now
invoke Recover VMs of Failed Host.
Insight Control virtual machine management does not display Quick Move option
for HA configured Microsoft Hyper-V server virtual machines in the Move wizard
Ensure the HA configured Microsoft Hyper-V server virtual machine is listed in the Microsoft Failover Cluster
Management tool.
Check whether domain credentials are provided in system sign-in credentials of Systems Insight Manager
credentials settings, and the Microsoft Hyper-V server host is registered properly. If the credentials are not
entered, enter them in the system sign-in credentials of Systems Insight Manager credentials settings and
re-register the Microsoft Hyper-V server host.
Pre-failure alerting reports errors for Citrix XenServer resource pool
The following errors might occur:
Error: This operation cannot be performed because it would invalidate VM
failover planning such that the system would be unable to guarantee to restart
protected VMs after a Host failure.
This error indicates that your resource pool cannot put into maintenance mode as the resource pool contains
protected virtual machines. To unprotect the virtual machine, see the Citrix XenServer documentation, and
then try pre-failure alerting.
Error: you attempted to run a VM on a host which doesnt have access to an SR
needed by the VM. The VM has at least one VBD attached to a VDI in the SR.
This error indicates that your resource pool contains virtual machines in a running state that are not on the
shared storage in the resource pool. Stop the virtual machines, and then attempt pre-failure alerts again.
Hyper-V R2 host virtual machines recovered on alternate host using Failed Host
Recovery cannot be powered on
Ensure the cluster shared volume(CSV) is accessible on the alternate host. Configure the network settings of
the virtual machine manually if not set.
