HP Insight Control Server Provisioning 7.3 Update 1 Administrator Guide

9 How IC server provisioning works with Matrix OE and
HP OneView
Insight Control server provisioning works with both HP Matrix Operating Environment and HP
OneView appliances. An overview is provided in the following sections:
“Matrix OE integration” (page 43)
“Coexistence with HP OneView appliances” (page 43)
Matrix OE integration
The HP Matrix Operating Environment (Matrix OE), which includes HP Insight Control, is at the
core of HP CloudSystem Matrix, an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) solution for private and hybrid
cloud deployments.
The integration between Matrix OE and Insight Control server provisioning allows IC server
provisioning to be used for physical provisioning as part of Matrix OE. You can develop your
custom Build Plans in IC server provisioning and then have these Build Plans available for use in
Matrix OE services.
Before starting the integration you need to set the “MatrixUser” password in IC server provisioning
and note the IC server provisioning Deployment IP address. In order for Matrix CMS to be able to
access the appliance, a special user account called MatrixUser has been provided in Insight Control
server provisioning. The Matrix CMS cannot access the appliance using any other user account,
and a user cannot log into the IC server provisioning user interface with this account. The MatrixUser
account is exclusively for Matrix OE access. Before the MatrixUser account can be used, a password
must be set. You enter the MatrixUser password in IC server provisioning on the Edit OS Deployment
settings screen accessed from the Settings screen.
NOTE: See the HP Matrix OE Integration section of the online help for more information.
Once the password is set, you can configure your Matrix CMS to access this appliance by providing
the IC server provisioning Deployment IP address, the special username MatrixUser and the
password you defined.
Any time a password is entered on this Edit OS Deployment settings screen, it will overwrite the
previous password and your Matrix CMS will need to be updated.
Coexistence with HP OneView appliances
Insight Control server provisioning can work with HP OneView appliances operating in your
enterprise.
HP OneView can perform the following functions that can also be performed using Insight Control
server provisioning OS Build Plans:
Configure BIOS settings
Manage firmware updates
Configure SAN boot
If an HP OneView appliance is managing these aspects of your servers then you may not want IC
server provisioning to run Build Plans that perform those same actions. Insight Control server
provisioning needs to be aware of your HP OneView appliances. You can identify the HP OneView
appliances using the HP OneView Appliances screen available from the IC server provisioning
main menu. The HP OneView user account that is configured in the HP Insight Control server
provisioning appliance only requires “Read Only” access. An account with more privileges is
unnecessary and should not be used.
