Backing up and restoring HP Insight Management 7.3 Central Management Server (Windows)

Technical white paper | HP Insight Management 7.3
Step Action
7 Schedule a Windows task to save the HP Matrix infrastructure orchestration network
definition files between backups. This step is optional, but is recommended in
environments where infrastructure orchestration services are frequently created and
deleted.
To perform a full system backup of the CMS:
1. By default, the Windows services startup type of HP Insight Management services is set to
Automatic
. When
performing a full system backup, HP recommends temporarily changing the startup type to
Manual
so that the startup
type in the backup copy is
Manual
. If a restore is necessary, this will prevent the services from starting before the
recovery process is complete. Table 3 provides a list of the HP Insight Management service names. At a minimum, the
state of the HP Matrix infrastructure orchestration service must be changed to
Manual
. The services can be changed to
Manual by running the mxsync-svcutil script, located in <SIM>\mxsync\bin:
mxsync-svcutil manual
For HA CMS configurations, you will also need to make this change for the HP Insight Management services running on
the secondary node. To do this, you must log in to the secondary node. There are two local services that are not
configured as part of the HP Insight Management cluster service that need to be changed. These services are running
on both cluster server nodes and will need to be changed manually on the secondary node. You can change the startup
type of these services to
Manual
by using the mxsync-svcutil script from the command prompt.
Note:
For HA CMS cluster configurations, HP Insight Management services that are configured as cluster resources are already set
to
Manual
. The mxsync-svcutil script changes only those HP Insight Management services that are not cluster
resources.
2. Using the tool of your choice, perform a full system backup of the CMS.
Note:
For HA CMS cluster configurations, HP recommends that you follow Microsoft's recommended backup procedures for doing
a full backup of the cluster nodes and cluster configuration. For details, see the Microsoft documentation, available at
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771973.aspx.
For HA CMS cluster configurations, a full backup includes a backup of the two servers in the cluster, and the shared cluster
disks.
3.
For remote databases only
: Using the tool of your choice, perform a full backup of the databases listed in Table 9 from
the remote database server. The database backup must restore the entire database, including schema and data.
4.
After the backup is complete, the startup type of the HP Insight Management services should be reset to
Automatic
for
normal operations. You can do this by using the mxsync-svcutil script, located in <SIM>\mxsync\bin.
mxsync-svcutil auto
