Backing up and restoring HP Insight Management 7.3 Central Management Server (Windows)

Technical white paper | HP Insight Management 7.3
Domains managed by VCEM. In phase 3, you are asked to identify any IP addresses that are associated with these
servers.
VC domain added after backup
If, as a post-backup activity, a VC Domain was added to a VCDG, after the VCEM database is restored from backup, the VC
Domain is not defined as a member of the VCDG in the restored VCEM database. You must manually re-add the VC Domain
to the VCDG.
To re-add the VC Domain, you must first release the VC Domain from VCEM control. You can use the Virtual Connect
Manager command-line utility to remove the external account. For details about releasing the external manager account,
see the HP Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager User Guide.
Perform the following steps during execution of mxsync:
1. During the Systems Insight Manager execution step, verify that the enclosure has been discovered successfully by
Systems Insight Manager.
2. During the analysis step of phase 1 in the Virtual Connect Enterprise Management section, mxsync displays a
message stating that the VC Domain is inaccessible. You are given the opportunity to provide the credentials for the VC
Domain. This allows mxsync to access the VC Domain to identify any WWN or MAC addresses that were assigned to
the VC Domain after the backup. This can happen if, for example, as a post-backup activity, a VC profile was assigned to
the newly added VC Domain.
During the execution step of phase 1, the identified WWN and MAC addresses are marked as EXTERNAL in the restored
VCEM database. Any profiles in the restored VCEM database using these addresses are deleted. These steps are
necessary to allow the VC Domain to be re-added to the VCDG.
During the second phase, mxsync issues requests to VCEM to resynchronize each VC Domain managed by VCEM.
3. After phase 2 of the Virtual Connect Enterprise Management section has completed successfully, but before
starting the
Logical server Synchronization
section, you must re-add the VC Domain to the VCDG. You can reissue the
Add to VC Domain Group
request by selecting
Tools
Integrated Consoles
Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager
(VCEM)
in Systems Insight Manager. Click the
VC Domains
tab to add the selected VC Domain.
If the enclosure was licensed after the backup, you must re-license the enclosure.
4. After the VC Domain is added, you can proceed with the
Logical servers and associated SAN-based storage
section of
mxsync.
Important:
Do not proceed to the
Logical servers and associated SAN-based storage
mxsync
section until all added and removed VC
Domains are processed successfully. Recommendations made during the
Logical servers and associated SAN-based
storage
mxsync
section are based on the assumption that the VCEM database is up-to-date. If this is not the case, the
recommended actions may be incorrect.
VC modules added or removed after backup
If, as a post-backup activity, VC modules were added to, removed from, or replaced in an enclosure that is managed by
VCEM on the CMS being restored, mxsync will report an error when trying to perform domain synchronization. Manual
steps must be performed to synchronize the domain with the restored VCEM database.
