A.05.70 HP Insight Remote Support Advanced Service Brief: Read Before Installing (October 2011, 5900-1724)

3
Overview
For a successful installation of the Insight Remote Support Advanced solution you must read the
relevant documentation and follow the instructions. This service brief highlights critical processes
necessary for a successful installation. Throughout this document you will see references to HP
Insight Remote Support Advanced documentation, which is available at:
http://www.hp.com/go/insightremoteadvanced-docs.
Communication
The Insight Remote Support Advanced solution relies on communication:
Between Managed Systems and the CMS in your Intranet
Between the CMS and the HP Support Center over the Internet
Figure 1 Managed System and CMS Communications (not all MS types are represented)
Communication protocol types include SNMP, WBEM, Command View EVA, and ELMC.
Communication protocol applications include discovering Managed Systems, transmitting event
data from Managed Systems to the CMS (reactive), and transmitting configuration collection data to
the CMS (proactive). Because some Managed System types (like Windows Integrity Servers) are
discovered using a different protocol than is used to manage reactive data, it is very important to
read the full chapter of your Managed System(s) type(s) in the HP Insight Remote Support
Advanced Managed Systems Configuration Guide.
Managed Systems communicate with the CMS using WBEM, SNMP, Command View, or ELMC
protocols depending on the type of communication (proactive configuration collections or reactive
event data) and the type of Managed System. You must configure the appropriate management
software and communication protocols on your Managed Systems before they can be discovered or
monitored by Insight Remote Support. The type of software will vary by Managed System type, so it
is critical that you read the entire chapter(s) of the HP Insight Remote Support Advanced Managed
Systems Configuration Guide for your particular Managed Systems type(s).
The CMS must be configured to receive communication from the Managed Systems or the solution
will fail. If you are using WBEM, the WBEM credentials must be configured in HP SIM on the CMS.
If you are using SNMP, it must be installed and configured on the CMS to receive content from the
Managed Systems.
Additionally, you must configure your environment to allow communication from the CMS to the HP
Support Center. See the HP Insight Remote Support Advanced Central Management Server
Configuration Guide for more information.
