BackPak H4.00 Catalog Sync Option

Disaster/Recovery Option Description
15 BackPak H4.00 Catalog Sync Option
Full or Update export/import
Full Export extracts the catalog information about all the volumes of a BackPak
primary data store.
Full Import replaces the catalog information already known about the volumes of a
BackPak secondary data store, by the content of the staging area.
Export Update extracts the new catalog information that was not successfully written
to the staging area.
Import Update reads the new files received in the staging area since the previous
successful import, and apply this new metadata to the catalogs. If an error occurs
for one of the volumes to import, all volumes will be re-imported at next Import
Update to be sure nothing is missing.
The exported catalog information of a volume consists in:
The BackPak entry about a tape volume
the DSM/TC entries related to this volume located in the DSM/TC volume
catalog and pool named in the BackPak volume group configuration
The imported catalog information of a volume consists in:
The BackPak entry about a tape volume.
BackPak entries are always applied to the secondary data store. Deleted
volumes are removed on the secondary side only during a Full import.
the DSM/TC entries related to this volume located in the DSM/TC volume
catalog, pool and file catalog named in the BackPak volume group
configuration.
DSM/TC entries are created when missing, updated if different. The DSM/TC
tape volumes are deleted only during a Full Import and only if there was an
associated BackPak volume ion the secondary site.
Export/import initiation
Each export or import is an independent Guardian process. A single export or import
can run at a time per data store.
FULL export/import
Full export and full import are executed on demand only, through the GUI or
scheduled TACL macro.
