44 BackPak H4.00 Catalog Sync Option
Appendix A – transport without Expand
If Expand is not available between the primary and the secondary sites to quickly move
the export files, the user must implement an additional intermediate staging area
target of the export function on the primary side.
He must set and operate the move of these export files between the intermediate
staging area on the primary side and the regular staging area on the secondary side.
A way to move the files is to use backup-restore on a BackPak tape volume. This
volume will be moved / replicated by the same means the other BackPak tape volumes
are made available to the secondary side.
This special volume should be not cataloged, created in the primary BackPak data
store, under a very specific label that will be dedicated to this usage.
On the primary side, a single backup execution could be written on this special tape
volume:
- A backup of the whole intermediate staging area should be taken after FULL
export
- A partial backup can be run after the automatic exports of each backup window.
Before this tape volume can be read on the secondary site, it must be registered in the
secondary BackPak domain at setup time. To register it:
change the SECONDARY involved data store to RESTRICTED domain access
create the volume in this data store, in a volume group not associated to a
DSM/TC or other catalog
change back the RESTRICTED data store to SECONDARY domain access
On the secondary side:
- The user should manually detect when the replicated special volume is available
in the data store
- Restore the whole content of backup on the regular staging area, replacing files
that are already existing on disk.
