BladeCluster Solution Manual

1 BladeCluster Solution Overview
The BladeCluster Solution is comprised of network topologies that interconnect NonStop
BladeSystems and NonStop NS16000 series systems as nodes, which can also cluster with 6770/
6780 ServerNet clusters. These interconnected nodes use ServerNet to pass information from
node–to–node functioning as one large processing entity.
WARNING! All procedures in this manual must be performed by authorized service providers.
BladeCluster Solution Topologies
There are several BladeCluster Solution topologies:
“BladeCluster/BladeSystem Solution” (page 13)
“BladeCluster/NonStop NS16000 Series Solution” (page 13)
“BladeCluster/Mixed System Solution” (page 14)
“BladeCluster/6700 Series Solution” (page 15)
“BladeCluster/Multi-Zone Solution” (page 16)
To support the BladeCluster Solution topologies, each BladeCluster node is connected along each
of two ServerNet fabrics via multilane ServerNet links. The characteristics of the BladeCluster
topologies are:
NonStop BladeSystems and NS16000-seriesSupported platforms
J06.04 and later RVUs and H06.14 and later RVUsSupported RVUs (depending on the topology)
1 to 3Supported zones
1 to 8 nodes per zone — up to 24 nodes per BladeClusterSupported nodes
1
125 metersMaximum distance between nodes in the same zone
2
Maximum distances between zones
3
Short–haul topology: 125 meters (410 feet)
Long–haul topology: 65 kilometers (40.4 miles)
1–2 DWDMs are required for each zone that uses the
long-haul topology. (This minimum depends on the DWDM
chosen and the DWDM's redundancy.)
Minimum Division Wavelength Division Multiplexer
(DWDM) connected to a BladeSystem anchor node
4
2 HP ServerNet Switches for BladeCluster are required per
BladeSystem node: one switch for each ServerNet fabric.
Minimum HP ServerNet Switches for BladeCluster
2 HP processor switches are required per NS16000 series
node: one switch for each ServerNet fabric.
Minimum HP processor switches (p-switches) configured
for BladeCluster
2 ACHs are required per zone: one for each ServerNet
fabric.
Minimum Advanced Cluster Hubs (ACHs) for cabling

ServerNet clusters
1
The BladeCluster/NonStop NS16000 Series Solution only supports a maximum of 5 nodes.
2
There is a 100 meter cable length restriction from a node to an ACH because on the other side of the ACH, there is
always another cable to another node; the overall distance between these nodes is 125 meters.
3
The max. overall distance between non-anchor nodes in different zones is 125 meters + 65 kilometers + 125 meters =
65,250 meters (40.54 miles).
4
Interzone connections between DWDMs require a customer-supplied SMF cable which can usually be obtained from a
Telco provider.
