BladeCluster Solution Manual

BladeCluster/6700 Series Solution
NOTE: NonStop NS14000 series can only connect to 6780 ServerNet clusters.
The BladeCluster/6700 Series Solution topology is comprised of a zone populated with NonStop
BladeSystems or NonStop NS16000 series nodes that provide connectivity to NonStop S-Series
and NS14000 series systems via a 6700 series ServerNet Cluster (either a 6770 or 6780 cluster
switch).
NOTE: Throughout this manual when a distinction between a 6770 ServerNet cluster and a
6780 ServerNet cluster is not required, 6700 series ServerNet cluster is used as a collective term.
The NonStop S-Series and NS14000 series systems connect only to the 6700 series ServerNet
cluster fabrics, whereas the BladeSystems and NS16000 series nodes connect to both BladeCluster
and 6700 series ServerNet cluster fabrics. All other communication is through the 6700 series
fabrics.
Connectivity of BladeSystem and NS16000 nodes to a 6700 series ServerNet cluster is an
all-or-none option. If one BladeSystem or NS16000 series node connects to a 6700 series cluster,
then all other nodes in the BladeCluster must connect to the same 6700 series cluster so that all
nodes can be reached.
There are software considerations depending on whether the 6700 series ServerNet clusters are
in a standalone topology or if they connect to the BladeCluster. For these considerations, refer to
“Software Requirements for BladeCluster/6700 Series Solution” (page 57).

For more information about the connections for this topology as well as software and hardware
requirements, refer to Chapter 5 (page 56).
