B DNS Server Configuration
This appendix describes configuring the master server. Topics include:
Master Server Configuration File on page B-1
Master Server Cache File on page B-4
The db.127.0.0 File on page B-8
Master Server db.domain Files on page B-10
Master Server Configuration File
The configuration file, named.conf, informs the master server of the location of all the
required data files. The master name server loads its database from these data files.
You create the named.conf by using a text editor. If you are running one master server,
create the configuration file in
/etc/dns_secure/named.conf or
/etc/dns923/named.conf. If you are running multiple master servers, each one
must have a different configuration file, the location of which you specify by using the
-c option when starting the server. (Since the default location for the named.conf file is
/etc/named.conf and the examples in this manual use the /etc/dns_secure/
directory, the
-c directive must be used to start all the master servers.) An example of
configuring a second master server follows Example B-1
.
For the setup in Figure B-1, the /etc/hosts file is:
15.19.8.119 rabbit
127.0.0.1 localhost loopback
15.19.8.64 cheetah
15.19.8.197 indigo incindigo
