This section provides examples of preparing to start Domain Name System (DNS),
starting DNS, and stopping DNS. This section does not provide background
information about DNS or the TCP/IP subsystems. Refer to the following manuals
(located in NTL) to gain a more in-depth understanding of DNS, NonStop TCP/IP,
Parallel Library TCP/IP, and NonStop TCP/IPv6:
•
BIND 9 Administrator Reference Manual
•
TCP/IPv6 Configuration and Management Manual
•

Also see Section 2, BIND 9.x on the NonStop Server and the appendixes for
background information about and examples of DNS.
This section provides the following procedures:

Prepare to Start DNS
Check Assumptions Before Starting DNS
Before starting DNS, ensure that these assumptions are met:
•
The Open System Services (OSS) operating system is available. Refer to the
Open System Services Installation Guide in NTL for installation procedures, and
the Open System Services Management and Operations Guide in NTL for
operating procedures.
•
Nonsecure DNS or secure DNS is installed. To check that DNS is installed,
perform the following steps:
1. For nonsecure DNS, change the directory to /etc/dns923/ in the OSS shell:
$ cd /etc/dns923/
2. For secure DNS, change the directory to /etc/dns_secure/ in the OSS
shell:
>cd /etc/dns_secure/
Note. In this manual, the dollar sign ($) denotes the OSS shell prompt.
