Configure Views
Configure Views
Views allow you to present one name server configuration to one set of hosts and a
different configuration to another set. Whether you choose to use views depends on
your overall architecture, firewall configuration, and security policy.
You only need to configure and maintain a single
named demon process instead of
running multiple
named processes on the same host (restricting each to a different
network interface) or establishing completely separate name server host machines,
each serving a different community of hosts. When you set up views, there is a single
interface box (sitting inside on the internal network or outside on the perimeter
network) that distinguishes inside from outside by IP address. With two boxes, one
inside and one outside, the firewall must distinguish inside from outside.
In the following example, two views are available in the server, one for internal clients
using addresses
10.53.0.2 and 10.53.0.3 and the other for external clients that
can be any address.
For the internal clients, the local zone file is root.hint. For the zone
example, the local
zone file is internal.db.
For the external clients, the local zone file is root.hint. For the zone
example, it is
example.db.
