TAPECATALOG DEFINE Attribute Descriptions
The value specified for version is a number in the range of 0 through 100. When
used, it applies only to uncataloged files specified by a TAPE DEFINE or
TAPECATALOG DEFINE with CATALOG OFF. When not used, the most current
version of a cataloged input tape file is used. There can be only one valid version
of a given tape file in DSM/TC.
NEW indicates that this is a new version of tape-file-id within an existing
generation. You cannot use NEW if USE IN or CATALOG OFF is specified.
VOLCAT [ \node.]volume-catalog-name
is the logical name of the volume catalog in which to create the entry for the output
tape. Include a value for \node when the volume catalog is not on your current
default node. The default is the name set by the MEDIACOM ALTER MEDIADEFS
command on the node named by AVRSYSTEM or the system named in DEVICE.
If neither is specified, the default is the local node. If CATALOG is OFF, VOLCAT is
ignored.
VOLUME { ( tape-name [ , tape-name ] ) }
{ SCRATCH }
specifies the names of input and output tapes or requests DSM/TC to select an
available scratch tape (when CATALOG ON is specified).
tape-name is the name in the tape label that identifies the tape. When tape-
name refers to an input tape (and CATALOG ON is specified), DSM/TC verifies that
the tape contains the tape file ID given in the FILEID attribute. If the tape does not
pass verification, DSM/TC rejects the tape request.
When tape-name refers to an output tape (and CATALOG ON is specified),
DSM/TC makes sure it is available. If tape-name is available, only that tape can
satisfy the mount message for it. To switch to a different tape after the mount
message is sent to the tape console, the operator must issue a MEDIACOM
ALTER TAPEMOUNT command.
When multiple output tapes are named, they are used in the order given. If a
named tape is cataloged but is not suitable or does not have scratch status,
DSM/TC selects the next name in the list that can be used and issues a mount
message for that tape. When another scratch tape is needed after DSM/TC has
run through the list of named tapes, it chooses a scratch tape from the pool named
in the POOL attribute.
A maximum of 60 tape names can be listed.
The keyword SCRATCH specifies that any scratch tape can be used for an output
tape file. If CATALOG ON is specified, a scratch tape from the pool is selected. If
you use VOLUME SCRATCH, you must also specify the USE OUT attribute.
The default for this attribute is SCRATCH when the USE OUT attribute is specified.
If VOLUME is not specified, and USE is specified as IN or EXTEND, DSM/TC uses
the file ID generation to get the correct volume from the DSM/TC catalog.
