Configuring the NonStop Server for the Tape Library
2. Specify the MEDIACOM ALTER MEDIADEFS command AUTOMATED ON option
If AUTOMATED OFF is specified and the first tape selected is not available in
the tape library, the operator receives a mount request.
If AUTOMATED ON is specified and the first tape selected is not available in
the tape library, $ZSVR automatically selects an alternate scratch tape for TMF
and DSM/TC catalog requests.
$ZSVR checks the tape library to see if the alternate tape volume is present. If
the alternate tape volume is not in the tape library, another tape volume is
selected. Up to ten attempts are made. On the tenth attempt, if the selected
tape volume is not in the tape library, the operator receives a mount request for
that tape volume. This mechanism is intended to handle a pool that includes
tapes both inside and outside of a tape library.
