TAPECATALOG DEFINE Requests
Because the HP NonStop operating system provides no cataloging facility for TAPE
DEFINE requests, the user or a third-party cataloging facility must provide the tape
volume names by using the VOLUME attribute. The operator receives a mount
message:
If no volumes are specified.
If the volumes specified are not in the tape library.
If a tape drive not configured for a tape library is specified by using the DEVICE
attribute.
If too few volumes are specified, the operator receives a normal mount message
after all volumes are exhausted. For example, if a backup operation takes four
tapes but only three tapes located in the tape library are specified in the DEFINE,
the operator receives a mount message for the fourth tape request.
Because TAPE DEFINEs have no attribute for compression, the MEDIADEFS default
is used.
TAPECATALOG DEFINE Requests
To automatically use the tape library, you cannot use LABELS OMITTED or BYPASS
when making a TAPECATALOG DEFINE request. If you do, no request is sent to the
tape library, and no tape cartridge is automatically mounted.
The operator receives a mount message:
If the volumes specified or selected by DSM/TC are not volumes specified are not
in the tape library, or
If a tape drive not configured for a tape library is specified by using the DEVICE
attribute
If too few volumes are specified, DSM/TC chooses more tapes automatically. If
AUTOMATED ON is specified for the system, $ZSVR retries each DSM/TC scratch
tape request, using up to ten different tape names.
The MEDIADEFS default for COMPRESSION is used unless the COMPRESS
ION
attribute is specified in the DEFINE.
