Configuring DSM/TC

Task 7. Define DSM/TC Defaults Using MEDIACOM
To create a pool of cartridge tapes physically stored and used in a tape library:
MC> ADD POOL ACS_TAPES,&
>>> VOLCAT MASTER_TAPE_CATALOG,&
>>> LABELS ANSI,&
>>> TYPE CART3480
Task 7. Define DSM/TC Defaults Using
MEDIACOM
To establish DSM/TC default values, use the DSM/TC operator interface, MEDIACOM.
The default values for such DSM/TC entities as the file catalog, volume catalog, pool
name, retention period, and current default node are always used unless you override
them by specifying them in a MEDIACOM session or in a CLASS TAPECATALOG
DEFINE request.
For a complete description of all MEDIACOM commands and options, and for usage
examples, see the DSM/Tape Catalog Operator Interface (MEDIACOM) Manual.
Support Level
To specify the level of DSM/TC tape support on the local system:
>MEDIACOM ALTER MEDIADEFS, LEVEL option
option Description (page 1 of 2)
COMPATIBLE Permits labeled and unlabeled tape processing. TAPE and
T
APECATALOG DEFINEs are allowed. Any applications that
currently use TAPE DEFINEs that do not want to use DSM/TC
services continue to function with no changes. Migration to DSM/TC
is simple because applications can be slowly converted to
TAPECATALOG DEFINEs as needed.
MEDIACAT Permits labeled and unlabeled tape processin
g. All labeled tape
processing is through DSM/TC, which provides security and
protection against accidental tape volume overwriting. The only
DEFINEs that work for tape processing at this level are
TAPECATALOG DEFINEs with CATALOG ON. A third-party tape
management system might also be running, though labeled tape
operations continue regardless.
TAPE DEFINEs must be converted to T
APECATALOG DEFINEs with
the CATALOG option set to ON.
NOCATALOG Permits labeled and unlabeled tape processin
g. However, only TAPE
DEFINEs and TAPECATALOG DEFINEs with the CATALOG option
set to OFF are allowed. Therefore, you cannot use DSM/TC. This
level is equivalent to the SYSGEN option
TAPE_LABEL_PROCESSING ENABLED.
