TAPECATALOG DEFINE Attribute Descriptions
AUTOMATED { ON | OFF }
determines the maximum number of times an attempt is made to automatically
select and mount a DSM/TC or TMF cataloged scratch tape into a tape drive in a
tape library:
If ON, $ZSVR requests DSM/TC or the TMF catalog to select a scratch tape in
a tape library to satisfy a mount message for a maximum of ten times.
If OFF, $ZSVR requests DSM/TC or the TMF catalog to select a scratch tape in
a tape library to satisfy a mount message one time only.
The default is the value set by the MEDIACOM ALTER MEDIADEFS command on
the node named by AVRSYSTEM or the system named in DEVICE. If neither is
specified, the default is the local node.
AVRSYSTEM \node
identifies the node where the tapes must be mounted. If the DEFINE does not
include a DEVICE or AVRSYSTEM attribute, all requests for tapes appear on the
current default node. You cannot specify both AVRSYSTEM and DEVICE.
For users converting from a TAPE DEFINE, the SYSTEM attribute is not supported
in a TAPECATALOG DEFINE. However, AVRSYSTEM provides the same function.
BLOCKLEN block-length
specifies the data block size in bytes. If RECFORM is F, BLOCKLEN must be a
multiple of the RECLEN value. BLOCKLEN is used only with tapes that have
standard ANSI or IBM-MVS labels.
BLOCKLEN cannot be used for tapes with LABELS format: BACKUP, OMITTED,
IBMBACKUP, and BYPASS. See the LABELS attribute on page
6-7.
CATALOG { ON | OFF }
determines whether to use DSM/TC for tape requests and to catalog tape files.
If ON, tape requests go through DSM/TC and cataloging takes place for an
output tape file. If DSM/TC is unavailable, requests and cataloging are denied
until it is available. The default is ON.
For users converting from a TAPE DEFINE, the REELS attribute is not
supported in a TAPECATALOG DEFINE. When you specify CATALOG ON in a
TAPECATALOG DEFINE, DSM/TC automatically provides the function of
REELS (to specify the number of reels of tape for an application to use).
With CATALOG ON, labeled tape processing is allowed only when the support
level is COMPATIBLE, MEDIACAT, INTEGRATED, TPTMCOMPATIBLE, or
TPTM.
