TAPECATALOG DEFINE Attribute Descriptions
POOL or ALTER POOL command in the DSM/Tape Catalog Operator Interface
(MEDIACOM) Manual.
In this case, you do not need to use this DENSITY attribute because the density
value of the pool is assigned as the density value for all tapes assigned to the pool.
If DENSITY is specified, only noncartridge-type tape drives should be used. If a
cartridge-type tape drive is selected using the DEVICE attribute, an error is
returned, and the tape request fails.
If CATALOG OFF is specified, the density written to the tape is drive dependent if
not specified in the DEFINE.
If you are converting from a TAPE DEFINE, a density value of 800 is not supported
in a TAPECATALOG DEFINE.
DENSITY is not supported by Backup Restore 2.0.
DEVICE [ \node.]$device
specifies the name of the tape drive where the tapes will be mounted. Include a
value for \node if the tape drive is not on your current default node. If the DEFINE
does not include DEVICE or AVRSYSTEM, tapes must be mounted on a drive of
the current default node.
DEVICE is required when you use LABELS BYPASS or LABELS OMITTED
attributes. You cannot use DEVICE and AVRSYSTEM in the same DEFINE.
EBCDIC { ON | OFF }
specifies whether data in an input or output file of an IBM-MVS labeled tape is
translated. This attribute is used only when LABELS IBM or LABELS IBMBACKUP
is specified. For more information, see the LABELS attribute on page
6-7.
If ON, for an input tape file, data is translated from EBCDIC to ASCII as it is
read. For an output tape file, data is translated from ASCII to EBCDIC before it
is written to the tape. The default is ON.
If OFF, data records are not translated.
If you are converting from a T
APE DEFINE, values IN and OUT for EBCDIC are
not supported in a TAPECATALOG DEFINE.
EXPIRATION { mmmddyyyy }
{ ddm
mmyyyy }
specifies the date that tape files on a labeled tape can be overwritten. Specify the
month, day, and year (for example, DEC312001 or 31DEC2001). This date is
written in the tape’s label and in the file catalog entry.
If you do not use the E
XPIRATION or RETENTION attributes and CATALOG ON is
specified, the default is the retention value set by the MEDIACOM ALTER
MEDIADEFS command on the node named by AVRSYSTEM or the system named
in DEVICE. If neither is specified, the default is the local node.
