tuning
supports a ServerNet wide area network (SWAN) concentrator. One TFTP server
process is required for each NonStop TCP/IP process that supports a SWAN
concentrator.
tuning. A tactical adjustment of a network’s dynamic resources to achieve some well-
defined performance goals. Tuning is influenced by and can influence the activities of
network planning, configuration, management, and troubleshooting.
UDP. See User Datagram Protocol (UDP).
UDP port. See port number.
User Datagram Protocol (UDP). An Internet-standard, transport-level protocol that
provides unreliable datagram service. The integrity of the packets is maintained; when
a packet is received, it is guaranteed to exactly match what was sent. However, neither
the delivery of packets nor the order in which datagrams are received is guaranteed.
variable packet size. A feature that allows Expand nodes to send packets that can exceed
the size of a normal Expand packet. The variable packet size feature is enabled using
the PATHPACKETBYTES modifier. It should be enabled when you are sending large
blocks of data. Contrast multipacket frame.
WANBoot process. A process created by the WAN manager process ($ZZWAN) that runs
as a process pair in each processor that supports a ServerNet wide area network
(SWAN) concentrator. WANBoot processes download Internet Protocol (IP) addresses
to the SWAN concentrators. WANBoot processes also initiate and sequence the
FIRMUP procedure.
WAN Manager process (WANMAN). See $ZZWAN.
WAN subsystem. See wide area network (WAN) subsystem.
WAN Wizard Pro. A graphical user interface (GUI) that guides you step-by-step through the
configuration of wide area network (WAN) and local area network (LAN) software and
hardware.
well-known port. A predefined Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) or User Datagram
Protocol (UDP) port number.
WHO command. A network-related HP Tandem Advanced Command Language (TACL)
command that displays saved defaults such as system name, home terminal, and
current volume.
Wide Area Network (WAN). A network that operates over a larger geographical area than a
local area network (LAN)—typically, an area with a radius greater than one kilometer.
The elements of a WAN may be separated by distance great enough to require
telephone communications.
