FCSA Features
FCSA Features
Supports both 2-Gbps or 1-Gbps Fibre Channel protocol.
Supports 2-Gbps multimode fibre cables for distances of up to 250 meters.
Supports a 2-Gbps Fibre Channel switched fabric interface to ESS.
Connects a NonStop system to an ESS located up to 10 km away if used with an
HP Fibre Channel switch.
Connects a NonStop S-series server to M8xxx fibre channel disks located in a
Fibre Channel Disk Module (FCDM).
Connects a NonStop S-series server to Fibre Channel tape drives.
Connects an Integrity NonStop NS-series server to M8xxx Fibre Channel disks
located in a Fibre Channel Disk Module (FCDM).
Allows an Integrity NonStop NS-series server to communicate with N1525A SCSI
tape drives through its connection to an M8201 Fibre Channel router. An M8201
device, connected to a single SAC on an FCSA, supports communication with as
many as two tape drives connected to its ports 1 and 2.
Operates at maximum effective ServerNet speeds.
Sustains a disk I/O rate of 16,000 I/Os per second (4KB I/Os).
Is supported by OSM client software to facilitate diagnostics and maintenance.
Supports ServerNet X and Y connections.
FCSA External Connectors, Indicators, and Cables
The FCSA external connectors consist of two multi-mode fibre cables.
Note. The FCSA supports both 2-Gbps and 1-Gbps Fibre Channel speeds. A 1-Gbps
Fibre Channel cable typically has a Subscriber Channel (SC connector) that does not
install on an FCSA unless an adapter is used. If the ESS Fibre Channel port is a 1-Gbps
port, the link operates at 1-Gbps even if the Fibre Channel cable connected to the FCSA is
a 2-Gbps cable. You cannot control the speed of the FCSA port; it runs at the speed of the
port at the other end of the cable.
Note. For information about installing and configuring Fibre Channel tape drives, refer to
the manual for the particular tape drive product. For information about the Fibre Channel
tape drives supported for direct connection to an FCSA, refer to the NonStop S-Series
Hardware Installation and FastPath Guide.
Caution. The fibre cables are easy to damage. Take care to keep them from being bent or
crushed, for example, by laying other, heavier cables being laid on top of them. In addition,
dust must be kept out of the connectors, so always leave the plugs in the end of the
connectors when the fibre cables are not in use.
