Fibre Channel Disk Module (FCDM) Connection
To obtain the WWNs of the FCSA, you must download the firmware. To download the
firmware:
1. Use SCF to add the DISK object.
2. Then start the DISK object. (The DISK object does not have to come up.)
3. After the firmware has been downloaded, determine the FCSA WWNs:
a. Issue the STATUS ADAPTER, DETAIL or STATUS ADAPTER, SACS
command.
b. Examine the Port Name and Node Name fields in the resulting display. The
contents of these fields contains the WWNs.
c. You can provide the WWNs to the ESS and Fibre Channel switch
administrators.
You can install an FCSA without shutting down the system.
Fibre Channel Disk Module (FCDM) Connection
Any connection between a NonStop S-series system or an Integrity NonStop NS-series
system and an FCDM containing M8xxx Fibre Channel disks requires the services of
two processes: the Fibre Channel Storage (FCS) Manager, which is part of the Storage
Manager ($ZZSTO), and the FCS Monitor $FCSMON), a persistent generic process
that runs in all processors.
Before connecting an FCDM to an FCSA, make sure that an FCS Monitor process is
running in all processors. Each of the two SACs on an FCSA can support as many as
four FCDMs, for a total of eight per FCSA. The FCS Manager process assigns a SAC
on an FCSA to a particular instance of the FCS Monitor.
The FCS Monitor process performs these tasks:
Accepts requests from FCS Manager process and provides the FCS Manager with
FCDM information
Notifies Configuration Services (ZCNF) of hardware changes in FCDMs and in the
process updates the PCT
Generates Hardware Change events and Environment status change events to
Service logs ($ZLOG)
Polls the EMU of every FCDM being monitored
Issues control commands, such as, disk location LED indicator ON/OFF to an EMU
Issues FIR information request commands like hardware type and revision to an
EMU
Issues FCDM status commands to EMU
The FCS Monitor is a persistent generic process. The SCF Reference Manual for the
Kernel Subsystem shows how to display information about the FCS Monitor process.
