Tape Drive Connection
Tape Drive Connection
Connections between host tape processes on NonStop NS-series systems and SCSI
attached N1525A tape drives require the use of a M8201 Fibre Channel to SCSI
router, which you install inside the system cabinet. For information about installing the
Fibre Channel to SCSI router and connecting it to the FCSA, see the
M8201 Fibre Channel to SCSI Router Installation Guide.
For information about using SCF to configure the appropriate TAPE object on the
NonStop NS-series system, see Tape Configuration on page 2-23 and the SCF
Reference Manual for the Storage Subsystem.
Prepare to Install an FCSA
Plan the Installation
Planning the installation of the FCSA is part of an overall strategy for fault tolerance in
the storage subsystem. The planning for the NonStop server might differ from the
planning for other HP components of the system as the NonStop server strategy most
likely emphasizes fault tolerance and the strategy for other HP components might
emphasize performance.
Planning for fault tolerance in the NonStop server storage subsystem is a broad topic.
In general, minimizing any occurrences of shared hardware increases fault tolerance.
Maximal fault tolerance is achieved when this principle is applied to all hardware
components that compose the path from the processor to the ESS or the FCDM that
contains M8xxx Fibre Channel disks.
For all connections:
•
Define processors in different enclosures for the primary and backup DISK
processes.
•
Define FCSAs in different modules in an IOAM enclosure or, better still, in different
IOAM enclosures for the primary and backup DISK paths.
