Investigating an H-Series RVU
For a complete list of supported tape drives, including using SCSI to connect to
G-series legacy tape drives, see the HP Integrity NonStop NS-Series Planning
Guide and the NonStop NS-Series Supported Hardware document in NTL.
Compaq TSM is not supported on H-series. You must use OSM. For many update
tasks, you can still use the Subsystem Control Facility (SCF).
The OSM Low-Level Link features a new System Load Configuration dialog
specifically for H-series. This system load and save configuration feature is much
more flexible than previous save configuration options used on G-series. The
mirrored system disk can have an independent adapter and location from the
primary system disk. $SYSTEM is the default in the OSM Low-Level Link
Configuration shortcut menu.
On H-series systems, the OSM Low-Level Link physical view displays a tabular or
inventory view of all the components with their attributes in the system.
Because of the new NonStop Advanced Architecture, updating processor boot
code and other server firmware files is completely different from updating server
firmware on NonStop S-series servers. See Managing Microcode and Firmware for
Integrity NonStop NS-Series Servers on page 1-9 for detailed information on
updating firmware.
The RCVDUMP program has two new parameters for H-series systems only,
SLICE sliceId and PARALLEL. See the NonStop TACL Reference Manual for
more information on syntax and usage.
For H-series systems only, RELOAD has a new option OMITSLICE. The RELOAD
command also includes the option NOPRIME, which is supported on both G-series
and H-series systems.
New error messages for RCVDUMP and RELOAD can be found in the HP
NonStop TACL Reference Manual, Appendix B. Syntax summaries for RCVDUMP
and RELOAD can be found in Appendix A.
Investigating an H-Series RVU
Several resources are available to help you plan for installing an H-series RVU:
Product softdocs and the README file.
The Release Version Update Compendium provides highlights of the new products
and features for each H-series RVU. It also discusses the effect these changes
have on installation and configuration, operations and management, data files,
applications, and networks.
The Interactive Upgrade Guide (IUG) simplifies the planning of software and
hardware for RVUs. Select the products and RVUs you use, and the Interactive
Upgrade Guide automatically displays customized migration instructions and lists
new features. Starting in G06.25, the Interactive Upgrade Guide 2 is introduced.
You can select either Interactive Upgrade Guide from NTL.
