1 H06.15 Overview This chapter provides an overview of the H06.15 RVU. Major New Features Table 1-1 summarizes the main changes in H06.15. For descriptions of new features, see the appropriate chapters. Table 1-1 Summary of the H06.
• For an H-series overview, see Section 1 of the H06.
2 Operating System Enhancements to OSS Thread-Aware I/O Operations The H06.15 RVU introduces new thread-aware APIs for OSS regular files: spt_fcntlz( ) spt_ftruncate64z( ) spt_fsyncz( ) spt_ftruncatez( ) spt_readvz( ) spt_readz( ) spt_writevz( ) spt_writez( ) For OSS regular files, these new APIs block only the calling thread instead of the process if they must wait for an I/O operation to complete, thus improving the throughput of multithreaded applications.
spt_writevz() Although this behavior is not POSIX compliant, it allows for improved performance, and this behavior is the same for both the existing thread-aware and thread-aware non-blocking OSS functions and the new spt_*z functions.
3 Application Development Products Native Inspect Enhancements Memory Leak Detection The following new commands are introduced to support memory leak detection: • SET HEAP-CHECK command • SHOW HEAP-CHECK command • INFO command Enhancement for Debugging Optimized Code The SET ENVIRONMENT command now enables users to turn on a warning if the debugging information generated for optimized code is incomplete.
4 Database and Transaction Processing Products SQL/MX UCASE/UPPER and LCASE/LOWER Enhancement The UCASE/UPPER and LCASE/LOWER functions are enhanced to handle Non-ASCII ISO88591 characters in the European alphabets. Multiple Preprocessor Coexistence Multiple versions of the SQL/MX preprocessor for both C/C++ and COBOL programs can now exist on the same system. Previously, installing a new version of the preprocessor would uninstall the previous version.
5 Installation and Configuration Products The H06.15 RVU contains no new features for installation and configuration products.
6 Manageability Products Safeguard Enhancements Improved OSS Auditing Safeguard now provides more control over OSS auditing. Previously, OSS auditing was controlled by the AUDIT-CLIENT-OSS global attribute. Safeguard now uses the following existing attributes to control OSS auditing activities: • AUDIT-USER-ACTION-PASS • AUDIT-USER-ACTION-FAIL These attributes provide greater control over the level of detail included in the audit; previously, they applied only to the Guardian environment.
7 Hardware Products Disk Recovery Time Enhancement RECOVERYTIMEOUT is a new attribute for magnetic disks that allows users to specify the number of seconds that the NonStop Storage Controller must wait for the device to respond to a recovery I/O. If the device does not respond within the specified time, the NonStop Storage Controller times out and aborts the I/O operation. This attribute applies only to ESS (Enterprise Storage) disks.
8 Networking Products The H06.15 RVU contains no new features for networking products.
A Sources for Migration Assistance and Information This appendix describes the assistance HP provides when problems arise during the migration and testing process. HP also provides services that can help you develop a migration plan and implement migration tasks. Most migration and release documentation is available through the HP NonStop Technical Library (NTL).
