1 Introduction to NonStop I/O Essentials The NonStop I/O Essentials product is an HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM) plug-in that virtualizes the configuration and control of all CIP (Cluster I/O Protocols) tasks by providing a graphical user interface alternative to the command line interfaces of the climcmd tool and SCF. The major benefits of using NonStop I/O Essentials include: • Ability to perform all CIP management tasks without knowing the syntax of NonStop commands.
2 Prerequisites for NonStop I/O Essentials This section describes the prerequisites for installing and using NonStop I/O Essentials, including: • “Console Requirements” (page 7) • “NonStop Software Requirements” (page 10) Console Requirements You can install NonStop I/O Essentials on Windows-based Central Management Servers (CMSs), NonStop system consoles (NSCs) being used as CMSs, Linux-based CMSs, or a combination of these, provided they meet the minimum requirements described in the following appropr
http://www.hp.com/go/hpsim HP SIM has its own prerequisites: ◦ On a Windows-based console, HP SIM requires Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows Server 2008. ◦ SNMP support on the CMS – This can be installed using the Add/Remove Windows components section in the Add/Remove Programs wizard. ◦ .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and Windows Installer 4.5.

Before starting the HP SIM service, ensure that the HP SIM SQL Server Database instance is Active and Enabled for the IP Address or FQDN, as described under Activate and Enable Database Instance. Start HP Systems Insight Manager Service. Activate and Enable Database Instance Either before installing HP SIM, or before starting the HP SIM service, the TCP/IP protocol of the HP SIM’s SQL Server Database instance should be Active and Enabled for IP Address or FQDN (as configured above).
To install NonStop I/O Essentials on a Linux CMS, it must meet the following minimum requirements: • Hardware – any HP IA-32 AMD64 or EM64T system with at least a 1.5-GHz processor and 1 GB RAM; 2.4-GHz processor and 2 GB RAM is recommended.
3 Installing NonStop I/O Essentials This section describes the process and sequence for installing and configuring the NonStop I/O Essentials environment, including: • “Installing the Client Component” (page 11) • “Installing the Server Component on a NonStop System” (page 14) Installing the Client Component This section describes how to install the NonStop I/O Essentials client component on a Windows console or Linux CMS that meets the “Console Requirements” (page 7).
For more information on installing and using NonStop Cluster Essentials, see the NonStop Cluster Essentials Installation and Quick Start Guide. • Before installing NonStop I/O Essentials version 1.4.0 or earlier, on a Windows-based console: ◦ Check to make sure that the HP SIM SQL Server Database instance is running in “SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode.” This can be confirmed, or set if necessary, by using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, as follows: 1.

Ready to Install – This step displays a confirmation of the install paths. Installing – This step copies all required files to the appropriate locations and runs the command-line utilities to integrate the plug-in into HP SIM. A progress bar is displayed. HP SIM restart – The installer will restart HP SIM to activate the plug-in.
3. 4. 5. 6. Existing Installation Check – this step checks to see if another version of NonStop I/O Essentials is already installed. If so, the installer will stop and tell you to uninstall that version first (see Uninstalling from a Linux CMS). Ready to Install – this step displays a confirmation of the product and version to be installed. HP SIM Check – this step confirms that HP SIM 7.1 or later is installed and running.
4 Configuring NonStop I/O Essentials The following configuration steps may be necessary, depending on your environment: • “Configuring SSL” (page 15) • “Registering for WBEM Alerts and Lifecycle Events” (page 15) • “Configuring OSM on Non-Default Stacks” (page 16) • “Changing the Default SSH Port” (page 16) Configuring SSL SSL (secure sockets layer) must be enabled for OSM to work with HP SIM. It is enabled by default in OSM T0682 H02 ADD (and later) and also for all NonStop BladeSystems.
