Fibre Channel Device Configuration
Recommendations
•
With primary and mirror disk drive enclosures in the same cabinet, the primary disk
drive enclosure resides in a lower U than the mirror disk drive enclosure.
•
Fibre Channel disk drives are configured with dual paths.
•
Where possible, FCSAs and disk drive enclosures are configured in the four
FCSA, four disk drive enclosure configuration for maximum fault tolerance. If
FCSAs are not in groups of four, then the remaining FCSAs and disk drive
enclosures can be configured in other fault-tolerant configurations such as the two
FCSA, two disk drive enclosure configuration or the four FCSA, three disk drive
enclosure configuration.
•
In systems with one IOAM enclosure:
°
In the two FCSA, two disk drive enclosure configuration, the primary FCSA
resides in module 2 of the IOAM enclosure with the backup FCSA residing in
module 3. (See the example configuration in Two FCSAs, Two DDEs, One
IOAM Enclosure on page 4-24.)
°
In the four FCSA, four disk drive enclosure configuration, FCSA 1 and FCSA 2
reside in module 2 of the IOAM enclosure with FCSA 3 and FCSA 4 residing in
module 3. (See the example configuration in Four FCSAs, Four DDEs, One
IOAM Enclosure on page 4-25.)
•
In systems with two or more IOAM enclosures
°
In the two FCSA, two disk drive enclosure configuration, the primary FCSA
resides in IOAM enclosure 1, and the backup FCSA resides in IOAM enclosure
2. (See the example configuration in.)
°
In the four FCSA, four disk drive enclosure configuration, FCSA 1 and FCSA 2
reside in IOAM enclosure 1, and FCSA 3 and FCSA 4 reside in IOAM
enclosure 2. (Dee the example configuration in Four FCSAs, Four DDEs, Two
IOAM Enclosures on page 4-27.)
•
Daisy-chain configurations follow the same restrictions and rules configurations
that are not non-daisy-chain. (See Daisy-Chain Configurations
on page 4-28.)
•
Disk drive enclosures containing mirrored volumes must be installed in separate
chains.
•
Daisy-chained configurations require that all disk drive enclosures reside in the
same cabinet and be physically grouped together.
•
Daisy-chain configurations require an ID expander harness with terminators for
proper disk drive enclosure and drive identification.
•
After you connect all disk drive enclosures in a four FCSA, four disk drive
enclosure configuration and three disk drive enclosures remain, connect them to
the four FCSAs. (See the example configuration in Four FCSAs, Three DDEs, One
IOAM Enclosure on page 4-30.)
