Some guidelines for configuring the DHCP server:
•
Configure the range of IP addresses to be assigned dynamically by the DHCP
server to be in the same subnet as existing IP addresses on the LAN and any
static IP address included in the maintenance LAN.
•
IP addresses for these components should remain static:
°
The four IP addresses reserved for the OSM Low-Level Link and Service
Connection.
Do not include these address in the pool of address the DHCP uses for
address assignment.
°
The UPS (recommended but not required)
Static or Dynamic IP Addresses
Various components within the dedicated maintenance LAN will have static or dynamic
IP addresses. This sample shows the address in an example maintenance LAN;
however, any combination is possible:
Ethernet Cables
Ethernet connections for a maintenance LAN require Category 5 unshielded twisted
pair.
SWAN Concentrator Restriction
•
Isolate the dedicated maintenance LAN from any ServerNet wide area network
(SWAN) on a system.
•
Isolate redundantly configured SWAN concentrator subnets from the maintenance
LAN.
•
Do not connect SWANs on a subnet containing a DHCP.
