Cable Length Restrictions

Maximum allowable lengths of cables connecting the modular system components are:

Although a considerable cable length can exist between the modular enclosures in the

system, HP recommends placing all cabinets adjacent to each other and bolting them

together, with cable length between each of the enclosures as short as possible.

Processor Slices to LSUs

Fiber-optic cables (called slice optic cables) provide communications between each

slice and the LSU as well as between the LSU and the X-fabric and Y-fabric p-switch

PICs. ServerNet X fabric and Y fabric provide the system I/O from the p-switch PICs to

the IOAM, with Fibre Channel and high-speed Ethernet links providing connections to

storage and communications LANs, WANs, and so forth.

Cable connections between the slices and the LSU optic adapters affect proper

processor synchronization and rendezvous. For each logical processor element (PE),

the port for a particular PE, such as PE1 (slice port J0) on DMR slices A and B or TMR

slices A, B, and C, must connect to their respective ports on the LSU optic boards as

shown in the example connection diagrams in LSUs to Processor Switches and

Processor IDs. Although you can randomly select LSU optic boards for slice optic

cable connections, HP recommends connecting these cable to the LSUs in sequential

order as shown in the connection diagrams.
