Internal Interconnect Cables
Several Integrity NonStop NS-series enclosures, specifically the NonStop Blade
Element, p-switch, and LSU, integrate CMS provisions for routing and securing the
fiber-optic cables to prevent damaging them when the enclosures are moved out and
back into the cabinet for servicing.
Additionally, cable spools mounted on the inside of the cabinet structure provide the
means for looping and containing free lengths of fiber-optic cables to prevent damage.
Internal Interconnect Cables
Integrity NonStop NS-series systems use predominantly multimode fiber-optic (MMF)
cables for ServerNet interconnection of:
NonStop Blade Elements to LSUs
LSUs to p-switches
P-switches to IOAMs
P-switches to IOMF 2 CRUs in NonStop S-series I/O enclosure
P-switches to p-switches (crosslink)
P-switches to ESS disks
FCSA to M8201R Fibre Channel to SCSI router
MMF cables are usually orange with a minimum bend radius of:
Unsheathed: 1.0 inch (25 millimeter)
Sheathed (ruggedized): 4.2 inch (107 millimeter)
You can use fiber-optic cables available from HP, or you can provide your own
fiber-optic cables. If you provide your own fiber-optic cables, follow the appropriate HP
specification for the type of cable you provide. The specification can be obtained from
your HP product representative.
Verify that the link does not exceed the maximum allowable loss. Use a calibrated
optics power source to measure the optics power at the distant end of the cable and
then calculate the attenuation. Loss of 10.5 db or less is acceptable. Attenuation above
10.5 db might appear to work, but the bit error rate might be unacceptable and require
repairing or replacing the cable.
Connections from a p-switch to a Model 6780 cluster switch can use single mode
fiber-optic (SMF) cabling.
Note. The Integrity NonStop NS14000 system does not use p-switches. Instead, LSUs are
connected to 4PSEs installed in an IOAM enclosure. See Modular System Hardware on
page 8-14 or Cable Length Restrictions on page 8-18.
