Internal Interconnect Cables
Each label conveys this information:
If you replace a cable or either install or move an enclosure, be sure to update
information on the labels at both ends of the cables.
Internal Interconnect Cables
For a general description about internal interconnect cables, refer to the NonStop NS-
Series Planning Guide. Details about internal interconnect cables that are specific to
an Integrity NonStop NS1000 server are presented here. For example, blade elements
connect directly to 4PSEs in the IOAM enclosure.
Integrity NonStop NS1000 systems predominantly use multimode fiber-optic (MMF)
cables for ServerNet interconnection of:
Blade elements to the IOAM
FCSA to ESS disks
MMF cables are usually orange with a minimum bend radius of:
Unsheathed: 1.0 inch (25 millimeter)
Sheathed (ruggedized): 4.2 inch (107 millimeter)
You can use fiber-optic cables available from HP, or you can provide your own fiber-
optic cables. If you provide your own fiber-optic cables, follow the appropriate HP
specification for the type of cable you provide. The specification can be obtained from
your HP product representative.
Verify that the link does not exceed the maximum allowable loss. Use a calibrated
optics power source to measure the optics power at the distant end of the cable and
then calculate the attenuation. Loss of 10.5 db or less is acceptable. Attenuation above
10.5 db might appear to work, but the bit error rate might be unacceptable and require
repairing or replacing the cable.
N1 Identifies the node number.
R1 Identifies the rack number within the node.
Un Identifies the offset that is the physical location of the
component within the rack. n is the lowest U number on
the rack that the component occupies.
nn.nn Identifies the slot location and port connection of the
component.
Near Refers to the information for this end of this cable.
Far Refers to the information for the other end of this cable.
