NonStop NS1000 Planning Guide (H06.08+)
7 Examples of Configurations
This section shows examples of hardware component configurations within 36 and 42 U modular
cabinets for an Integrity NonStop NS1000 server. A number of other configurations are also
possible because of the flexibility inherent to the NonStop architecture and ServerNet network.
NOTE: Hardware configuration drawings in this section represent the physical arrangement
of the modular enclosures but do not show PDUs. For information about PDUs, see “Power
Distribution Units (PDUs)” (page 52).
Maximum Number of Modular Components
This table shows the maximum number of the modular components installed in an NS1000
system. These values might not reflect the system you are planning and are provided only as an
example, not as exact values.

1 This configuration maximizes the ports designated as Fibre Channel ports on each VIO enclosure. See “Fibre Channel
Disk Module” (page 62).
2 This configuration uses two 42U modular cabinets with one UPS at offset 2U and up to two ERMs installed directly
above the UPS in each cabinet.
Typical Configurations
This subsection shows the U locations (in 36 and 42 U modular cabinets) of modular hardware
configurations that can be installed in the specified system. These options can be installed in
locations marked Configurable Space in the configuration drawings:
• Maintenance switch: 1U required
• Console: 2U required, with recommended installation at cabinet offset 20U
• Fibre Channel disk module: 3U required
These topics are covered:
• “2-Processor System” (page 94)
• “4-Processor System” (page 95)
• “6-Processor System” (page 96)
• “8-Processor System” (page 97)
