NonStop NS1200 Planning Guide
4 System Configuration Guidelines
This section provides configuration guidelines for an Integrity NonStop NS1200 system.
Integrity NonStop NS1200 systems use a flexible modular architecture. Therefore, various
configurations of the system’s modular components are possible within configuration restrictions
stated in this section and Chapter 5 (page 63).
Internal ServerNet Interconnect Cabling
This subsection includes:
• “Dedicated Service LAN Cables” (page 51)
• “Length Restrictions for Optional Cables” (page 51)
• “Internal Cable Product IDs” (page 51)
• “Blade Element to VIO Enclosure” (page 51)
• “Processor ID Assignment for the Blade Element” (page 52)
• “Fibre Channel Ports to Fibre Channel Disk Modules” (page 52)
• “Fibre Channel Ports to Tape Devices” (page 52)
For general information about internal ServerNet interconnect cabling, refer to the NonStop
NS14000 Planning Guide.
Dedicated Service LAN Cables
The Integrity NonStop NS1200 system uses Category 5, unshielded twisted-pair Ethernet cables
for the internal dedicated service LAN and for connections between the VIO enclosure and the
application LAN equipment.
Length Restrictions for Optional Cables
Maximum allowable lengths of optional cables connecting to components outside the modular
cabinet are:
Product IDMaximum LengthConnectorsFiber TypeConnection
M8900nnn
250 mLC-LCMMFVIO enclosure (Fibre
Channel port) to ESS
M8900nnn
250 mLC-LCMMFVIO enclosure (Fibre
Channel port) to FC
switch
Although a considerable cable length can exist between the modular enclosures in the system,
HP recommends that cable length between each of the enclosures as short as possible.
Internal Cable Product IDs
For product IDs, see “Internal Cables” (page 77).
Blade Element to VIO Enclosure
Fiber-optic cables provide communication between the ServerNet PCI adapter card in each blade
element and the ServerNet-to-processor ports on the VIO enclosure. The Fibre Channel ports
and Ethernet ports on the VIO enclosure then provide Fibre Channel and high-speed Ethernet
links to storage and communication LANs.
