B-10
Basic Configuration
An Integrity NonStop NS16000 system requires a dedicated LAN for system
maintenance through OSM. Only components specified by HP can be connected to a
dedicated LAN. No other access to the LAN is permitted. The dedicated service LAN
provides connectivity between the OSM console running on a PC and the maintenance
firmware in the system hardware.
Basic Configuration
A basic dedicated service LAN that does not provide a fault-tolerant configuration
requires connection of these components to the ProCurve 2524 maintenance switch
installed in the modular cabinet:
•
System console for running OSM
•
Processor switch on the X fabric for OSM Low-Level Link to a down system
•
Processor switch on the Y fabric for OSM Low-Level Link to a down system
•
IOAM 2 ServerNet board for OSM control of the I/O hardware
•
IOAM 3 ServerNet board for OSM control of the I/O hardware
•
Connections to both X and Y fabrics (for fault tolerance) for OSM system-up
maintenance (any one of these connections is valid as long as there are at least
two connections total):
°
Gigabit 4-port ServerNet adapters (G4SAs) installed in an IOAM enclosure
°
Ethernet 4-port ServerNet adapters (E4SAs), Fast Ethernet ServerNet
adapters (FESAs), or Gigabit Ethernet ServerNet adapters (GESA) installed in
a NonStop S-series I/O enclosure with IOMF 2 CRUs
•
UPS (optional) for power-fail monitoring
•
Fibre Channel to SCSI converter (optional) for Fibre Channel tape
Fault-Tolerant Configuration
You can configure the dedicated service LAN as described in the OSM Migration and
Configuration Guide. HP recommends that you use a fault-tolerant LAN configuration.
A fault-tolerant configuration includes these connections to two maintenance switches:
•
A system console to each maintenance switch
•
Processor switch on the X fabric to the first maintenance switch
•
Processor switch on the Y fabric to the second maintenance switch
Note. System consoles require a dedicated LAN for installation and use of the complete set of
OSM client applications.
