NonStop NS16000 Series Planning Guide (H06.11+)
These restrictions apply to connecting the p-switches to the networking CLIMs:
• The same PIC number in the X and Y p-switch must be used, such as PIC 9 as shown in the
illustration below. There is one connection to the X p-switch and one connection to the Y
p-switch.
• Each port on the p-switch PIC must connect to the same numbered port on the networking
CLIM's PIC (port 1 to port 1, port 2 to port 2, and so forth).
• Connections to a networking CLIM cannot co-exist on the same p-switch PIC with connections
to an IOAM or NonStop S-series I/O enclosure.
Typically networking CLIMs connect to slots 6 through 9 of the p-switch, although slots 4 and 5
also support networking CLIMs. This illustration shows an example of two DL385 G2 or G5 IP or
Telco CLIMs connected to two p-switches (slot 9, ports 1 and 2). Connections for both ServerNet
fabrics are shown.
Processor Switches to Storage CLIMs
Each p-switch (for the X or Y ServerNet fabric) has up to six I/O PICs (slots 4 through 9, starting
with slot 4) for Storage CLIM connections. One I/O PIC is required for each Storage CLIM enclosure
in the system, allowing up to six CLIM enclosures in the system. Four ServerNet cables connect
each of the four ports of an I/O PIC in the X and Y ServerNet p-switches to the corresponding
ports on one of the Storage CLIMs in the NonStop NS16000 series enclosure.
These restrictions apply to connecting the p-switches to the Storage CLIMs:
• The same PIC number in the X and Y p-switch must be used, such as PIC 4 as shown in the
illustration below. There is one connection to the X p-switch and one connection to the Y
p-switch.
• Each port on the p-switch PIC must connect to the same numbered port on the Storage CLIM's
PIC (port 1 to port 1, port 2 to port 2, and so forth).
• Connections to an Storage CLIM cannot co-exist on the same p-switch PIC with connections
to an IOAM or NonStop S-series I/O enclosure.
