When To Use This Section
Use this section to monitor CLuster I/O Modules and to perform recovery operations.
NOTE: If you need to power off a CLIM, refer to the Cluster I/O Protocols (CIP) Configuration
and Management Manual.
CLuster I/O Modules (CLIMs)
CLuster I/O Modules (CLIMs) are servers that provide networking and storage protocols.
CLIM operations are managed with NonStop management tools and applications, including OSM,
SCF, CLIMCMD, and HP SIM. CLIMs use PCIe cards for ServerNet connection. For security, CLIMs
do not allow any customer code or applications, and there is no modem-based dial-out. In addition,
only users authorized for the NonStop host system are allowed to interface with the CLIM because
a secure shell relationship is established at installation time between the CLIM and the NonStop
host system.
There are different kinds of CLIMs supporting different I/O protocols. See the planning guide for
your NonStop system for a list of supported CLIMs.
Monitoring the CLIMs with HP SIM
HP SIM monitors CLIMs as part of its high-level monitoring of NonStop systems. For more detailed
diagnostic and servicing functionality, use the OSM Service Connection. NonStop I/O Essentials,
NonStop Cluster Essentials, and NonStop Cluster Performance Essentials plug-ins extend HP SIM
management of CLIMs across NonStop clusters. For information about using HP SIM and its plug-ins
see “Using HP SIM” (page 55) and the online help in each of those plug-in products.
Monitoring the CLIMs with OSM
Use the Subsystem Control Facility (SCF), the CLIMCMD command line interface, and the OSM
Service Connection to monitor the CLIMs.
For an overview of using the OSM Service Connection to monitor system components, refer to
“Using the OSM Service Connection” (page 59).
Monitoring the CLIMs with SCF
To monitor the CLIM with SCF, use the SCF INFO and SCF STATUS commands.
For example, use STATUS CLIM to determine which CLIMs are present and in what state:
