Enterprise Storage System (ESS) Disks
The Enterprise Storage System (ESS) is any of several models of HP storage disk arrays. These
arrays are a collection of magnetic disks, their controllers, and the disk cache in one or more
standalone cabinets. The disks are configured with an attached console.
ESS disk drives are maintained and serviced only by qualified service providers who have completed

Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Disks and Solid State Drives
To determine whether your NonStop system supports CLIMs and SAS disks attached to CLIMs, see
the planning guide for your NonStop system.
NonStop BladeSystems with two Storage CLIMs support SAS disk drives installed in SAS disk drive
enclosures. Each SAS disk drive enclosure holds up to twenty-five 2.5” SAS disk drives, and up to
four SAS disk drive enclosures can be connected to the two CLIMs, for a maximum of one hundred
SAS disk drives. Each SAS disk drive enclosure is connected directly to both CLIMs.
Effective with the H06.24/J06.13 RVU, solid state drives (SSDs) in SAS enclosures connected to
G6 CLIMs are supported. Effective with the H06.23/J06.12 RVU, SSDs, as well as HDDs in SAS
enclosures connected to G6 CLIMs, can be partitioned. OSM provides support for SSDs and
