NonStop Operations Guide for H-Series and J-Series RVUs

4. In the Processor Status dialog box, select all processors to be halted.
To select multiple processors, use the Shift key, but the processors must be in numerical order.
For example, you can select processors 2, 3, and 4, but not 2 and 4.
5. From the Processors Actions menu, select Halt.
6. Click Perform action.
7. A message box asks whether you are sure you want to perform a halt on the selected
processors. Click OK.
Powering Off a System
You power off a NonStop system under special circumstances, such as before moving it to another
physical location, prior to extensive service work, or simply to retire the system.
Use OSM or SCF to place most system components in a low-power state before you remove power
to certain system components. Any attached I/O enclosures power off completely. The FCDM
enclosures are not placed in a low-power state after the power off action or command. Some
NonStop systems do not have low-power states.
There is no single programmatic command for powering off a NonStop system. You must perform
these steps:
1. Stop applications. See “Stopping Applications, Devices, and Processes” (page 190).
2. Use either of these methods to place most system components in a low-power state:
“System Shutdown Using OSM” (page 192)
“System Shutdown Using SCF” (page 193)
NOTE: For NonStop BladeSystems, NS2400 series, NS2300, NS2200 series, NS2100,
and NS2000 series systems, which do not have a low-power state, wait three minutes after
performing Step 2 to allow cache to write to disks before you manually power off hardware
components.
3. Locate the PDU circuit breakers. The number of PDUs depends on whether or not the rack has
a c7000 enclosure. The number of circuit breakers on each PDU depends on the PDU model.
4. Switch all PDU circuit breakers to the OFF position. UPS output is connected to the PDU inputs.
After switching the PDU circuit breakers OFF, the UPS is still on but its load is 0%.
5. Power down all UPSs and optional ERMs and disconnect each UPS from utility power. For
accurate and detailed instructions about powering down a UPS, see the HP user guide for
that UPS.
6. Locate the circuit breaker that controls the power cords and switch this breaker off.
System Shutdown Using OSM
1. Log on to the OSM Service Connection.
2. Right-click the System object.
3. Select actions.
4. From the drop-down menu, select System Power Off.
5. OSM displays this message:
This action will disable new I/O requests and halt processors. On
an S-Series system, this action powers off S-Series enclosures. On
an NS-Series system, this action will place some server components
in low power mode. On a NonStop BladeSystem, none of the components
will be powered off. After waiting for disk write cache to be written
to media on SAS disk enclosures and ESS storage, you can power off
all system components manually.
