NonStop Operations Guide for H-Series and J-Series RVUs

NOTE: For information about configuring and enabling a remote deskstop for dial-in services for
use by a service provider or authorized employee, see the NonStop System Console Installer Guide.
The OSM Low-Level Link and OSM Console Tools components reside on the system console, along
with other required HP and third-party software. OSM Service Connection and OSM Event Viewer
software resides on your system, and connectivity is established from the console through Internet
Explorer browser sessions. For more information, see “Launching OSM Applications” (page 30).
NOTE: The OSM Notification Director functionality has been replaced by HP Insight Remote
Support Advanced, which can be installed on the NonStop system consoles or on HP Central
Management Servers (CMS) for “Monitoring Problem Incident Reports” (page 59). The OSM
Notification Director may still reside on existing system consoles, but it is no longer installed on
new consoles and it is not delivered on the NonStop system console installer DVD.
Opening a TACL Window
On a system console, you must open a TACL window before you can log on to the TACL command
interpreter. For information about logging on to a TACL command interpreter, see the Guardian
User’s Guide.
You can use any of the following methods to open a TACL window.
Opening a TACL Window Directly From MR-Win6530
comForte MR-Win6530 is the terminal emulator shipped with the console software. It is launched
by the OSM Low-Level Link version T0633AAT and later for Startup TACL and Event Stream
windows. To launch a TACL session directly from MR-Win6530, see the MR-Win6530 User's
Guide (shipped with the console-based product).
Opening a TACL Window From the OSM Low-Level Link
If the system has not started any TCP/IP connections, you can open a TACL window from the OSM
Low-Level Link application as described in the Troubleshooting section in “Opening Startup Event
Stream and Startup TACL Windows” (page 196).
NOTE: OSM Low-Level Link version T0633AAT and later launches comForte MR-Win6530 for
TACL sessions.
For more details on the functions of the TACL command interpreter, see Appendix B (page 222).
Overview of OSM Applications
The HP NonStop Open System Management (OSM) product suite, used to perform a variety of
functions, includes:
The OSM Service Connection is the primary interface for managing and servicing NonStop
systems and components , as well as the ServerNet Cluster components (such as in 6770
ServerNet cluster, 6780 ServerNet cluster, or BladeCluster). See “Using the OSM Service
Connection (page 59) for an overview of how the OSM Service Connection is used to monitor
your system components.
The OSM Low-Level Link provides down-system support, such as “Starting a System (page 182)
and “Recovery Operations for Processors (page 129), but also allows you to configure CLIMs,
IOAM, VIO, and p-switch, and ServerNet switch modules, update CLIM software and firmware,
and create or update HSS files necessary for the processors in an all J-series (except the
NS2000) to boot.
