NonStop Operations Guide for H-Series and J-Series RVUs
Figure 1 HP SIM Tree View
HP SIM includes these general features for all platforms:
• Installs on Windows, HP-UX, and Linux CMS (Central Management Service)
• Inventory, fault, and configuration management
• Security features: role-based authorizations, OS-based authentication, SSL/SSH support
• Distributed task facility to remotely run commands, scripts, and batch files on managed systems
NOTE: Only Windows CMS is currently supported to manage NonStop systems.
In order to use HP SIM to display information about one or more NonStop systems, you must first
discover the systems, as described in HP SIM for NonStop Manageability.
The HP BladeSystem Integrated Manager is a component in HP SIM that provides streamlined
management for the entire HP BladeSystem product family. This plug-in correlates information from
Onboard Administrators (OAs), Integrated Lights Out processors (iLOs), and OS-based management
agents (OSM server for NonStop) to show the entire data center environment. For example, it can
show all the racks, which enclosures are in which rack, and which blades are running what OS.
Then, use this view to drill down to that system. HP BladeSystem Integrated Manager installs
automatically with HP SIM.
While supported on NonStop system consoles, HP recommends installing HP SIM and SIM plug-ins
on a separate Central Management Server (CMS). For more information, including considerations
for whether to install those products on system consoles or a separate CMS, see HP SIM for NonStop
Manageability. You can download HP SIM from http://www.hp.com/go/hpsim or install it from
the HP Insight Control for NonStop DVD, which ships along with the NonStop System Console
Installer DVD (see the HP NonStop System Console Installer Guide).
