NonStop Operations Guide for H-Series and J-Series RVUs
HP Manageability Tools That Monitor NonStop Performance
You can use these HP manageability tools to obtain performance information, both current and
historical, for NonStop subsystems:
• “NonStop Cluster Performance Essentials” (page 72)
• “NonStop Availability Statistics and Performance (ASAP)” (page 72)
• “Web ViewPoint NonStop Storage Analyzer Plug-In” (page 74)
• “HP Operations Agent for NonStop (OVNM)” (page 75)
• “HP Performance Agent for NonStop (OVNPM)” (page 75)
NonStop Cluster Performance Essentials
The NonStop Cluster Performance Essentials software provides plug-in components to HP SIM to
support performance monitoring clusters of NonStop servers or Linux servers, or a combination of
the two. The software allows you to monitor the performance of individual clusters or individual
servers using the HP SIM interface.
NonStop Cluster Performance Essentials consists of:
• Performance Essentials HP SIM client (PE SIM Plug-In)
• Performance Essentials NonStop Host (NonStop Agent)
The Performance Essentials SIM plug-in to HP SIM runs on the Central Management Server (CMS)
and the NonStop agent runs on NonStop servers. Performance Essentials agents collect and route
performance metrics from the managed servers to the Performance Essentials SIM plug-in, enabling
performance monitoring of the NonStop servers from the CMS using server-specific performance
data. Agent software runs on each managed NonStop server in association with and in support
of the SIM plug-in component. Together, the PE SIM plug-in and agents gather performance metrics
from managed NonStop clusters, representing them in the HP SIM GUI, determining the status of
clusters periodically, and providing alert notifications based on user-defined thresholds.
For more information about NonStop Performance Essentials, see the NonStop Cluster Performance
Essentials User Guide. For more information about HP SIM, see HP SIM for NonStop Manageability.
NonStop Availability Statistics and Performance (ASAP)
The NonStop Availability Statistics and Performance (ASAP) software product monitors the
availability and performance of NonStop systems and application objects:
• System object information includes the operational and performance status of NonStop system
components.
• Application information includes user-defined application domain availability statistics.
You can use NonStop ASAP to obtain real-time and historic views of your NonStop operating
system, to see everything from generalized overviews of availability and performance for system
and application objects to detailed, customized views of specific node-entity-object-attribute
combinations.
NonStop ASAP consists of these monitoring components:
• The ASAP Server includes remote-node statistics-gathering processes (SGPs) that run throughout
an Expand network of NonStop systems. These intelligent SGPs gather and analyze Application,
