NonStop Operations Guide for H-Series and J-Series RVUs
OVNPM installation creates a default configuration for out-of-the-box use. It scans your NonStop
system, automatically builds a set of entities (instances) for the CPU, DISK, GROUP, LINE, NETLINE,
NODE, SERVERNET, TMF, and USER domain types, and saves them in the USERCFG configuration
file. The OVNPM installation process cannot know or access your user applications, so its entities
and the entities for the remaining supported domain types (APPLIDEF, APPLIFILE, DISKFILE,
BASE24DEF, FILESIZE, PATHWAY, PROCESS, PROGRAM, SOCKETS, SQLPROC, SQLSTMT,
TCP/IP, and USERDEF) must be added manually by editing the configuration file.
Following installation, you must modify and build the OVNPM configuration whenever these
changes are made to your NonStop system:
• Hardware is added or removed.
• System software is added or removed.
• User applications are added or removed.
• A change is made to the monitoring status of an existing OVNPM entity.
To monitor a user applications on your NonStop system, the set of entities (instances) that belong
to the OVNPM domains PROCESS, PROGRAM, APPLIFILE, APPLIDEF, USERDEF, and BASE24DEF
must be discovered and added to the USERCFG file. The discovery process involves the steps that
build instances for these OVNPM domains:
1. Get the instances related to processes by locating the subvolume or directory that contains
the executable and processes that belong to the application .
2. Get the instances related to data files by using the navigator to obtain the data file opened
by those processes.
3. Get the USERDEF and BASE24 instances by defining their respective counters.

NonStop system, including USERCFG file syntax and modification rules and detailed entity
descriptions, instance configurations, and metrics, see the HP Performance Agent for NonStop
