CHAPTER 4: USING NONSTOP SPAM
__________________________________________________________________________
4.1 STARTING NONSTOP SPAM
NonStop SPAM has server and client components. The server services need to be started up before the
NonStop SPAM features can be accessed via the client component.
4.1.1 SERVER SERVICES
The server services are started by obeying the STRTNSM file present in the NonStop Monitor installation
subvolume (obey STRTNSM). The STRTNSM file starts up
NSMLAPP- This process communicates with the clients through the port # assigned via NSMCONF option
PORT. It should be running at all times.
NSMPMAN- This process manages the instances of the NSMMAN program. It should be running at all
times.
NSMMON-This process manages the server requests. NonStop SPAM has server and client components.
4.1.2 CLIENT (NONSTOP SPAM)
To access the NonStop SPAM functionalities, the user must provide the NonStop username and
password. If the NonStop system are not stored previously, the user will be prompted to provide the
details and an option to select the system from the dropdown at the top is provided. If none exists, add
a system on the ‘Manage’ window, which is explained in the Manage section 4.5.4.1.
4.2 PROCESS EXISTING MEAURE COLLECTIONS
NonStop SPAM allows the user to process the existing measure files for a chosen system through this
screen. The user needs to provide the full path of an existing Measure file and MEASFH file, if required,
and then select the “Process Collection” button to send a request to the NonStop Monitor, to process
transaction.
When the files are submitted for processing, NonStop SPAM checks for a valid license and if an entry for
that system exists in the user database. If none exists, the user is prompted to enter the registration
information, and if the client PC has Internet access the licensing process activates NonStop SPAM
automatically via internet. For Users without internet access to the World Wide Web, i.e. networks with
high security, the licenses are not automatically provided for NonStop SPAM. A License Request is
required only for these Users; the User needs to provide the Publisher with details to obtain a manual
license via E-mail.
