About This Manual
NonStop systems are a family of computer systems based on a common architecture
and operating system. NonStop systems differ in price and processing power, but they
all provide the same environment for developing and executing applications. These
systems provide an environment for developing and executing complex applications.
The newest NonStop servers are the Intel® Itanium®-based HP Integrity NonStop
NS-series servers. These servers run the HP NonStop operating system as well as the
other products described in this manual. Integrity NonStop NS-series servers provide a
computing environment that is similar to that of other NonStop servers.
This manual introduces you to the computing environment of NonStop systems. It does
not provide specific information about each type of NonStop system but instead
describes the features common to all NonStop systems.
Specifically, this manual describes the real-time solution requirements that the NonStop
system was designed to meet and shows how the three layers of the NonStop system
(the application environment, the middleware, and the architecture) provide a unique
and comprehensive solution to the challenges of the real-time enterprise.
This manual is not exhaustive in its presentation of HP real-time solutions and zero
latency enterprise frameworks and of the NonStop systems on which these solutions
and frameworks are implemented. The manual provides an orientation to the
fundamental features of zero latency enterprise frameworks, the middleware of
NonStop systems, and the Integrity NonStop server architecture, and discusses a few
key products.
Who Should Use This Manual
This manual is intended for all new users of NonStop systems. It provides useful
background information for marketing personnel, managers, and software developers.
