Figure 7-10 shows the three partitions of the database. For simplicity, only the author
field of each record is shown. Each partition can have a different system name and
volume name, but all the partitions must have the same subvolume name (PART in the
figure) and file identifier (PARTFILE in the figure). A subvolume is a logical division of a
disk volume. It contains one or more files.
