Glossary-12
TCP/IP
communication between processors and I/O devices in a single system. The extent of
a SAN is defined by a pair of ServerNet fabrics. See also ServerNet fabric and Expand.
TCP/IP. See Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
terminal. An I/O device capable of sending and receiving information over communications
lines.
throughput. The number of transactions a system can process in a given period, such as
one second.
TMF. A NonStop software product that provides transaction management, transaction
protection, and database consistency.
transaction. An operation or a series of operations that retrieves and updates information to
reflect an exchange of goods or services. In the process of retrieving and updating
information, a transaction transforms a database from one consistent state to another.
transaction backout. A TMF activity in which the effects of a partially completed
transaction are cancelled.
transaction processing (TP) monitor. A product that provides a transaction execution
environment on top of a conventional operating system. The transaction processing
monitor environments offered by HP are the NonStop Tuxedo and Pathway
environments. The application server environments NonStop CORBA and WebLogic
Server also provide TP monitor services
Transaction Services/MP. See TS/MP.
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). A set of layered
communications protocols for connecting workstations and larger systems. NonStop
TCP/IP provides TCP/IP connections for NonStop systems through the sockets
interface.
TS/MP. A NonStop product that provides process management and link management
functions for Pathway, Nonstop Tuxedo, and NonStop CORBA applications on
NonStop systems.
volume recovery. A database recovery mechanism used by TMF to return a database to its
most recent consistent state. TMF undoes any changes that were made to the
database by transactions that were not completed.
WebLogic Server. See BEA WebLogic Server.
wormhole routing. A form of message routing whereby each part of a message is
transmitted independently along a route and one part can be forwarded to the next
node before the following parts are received.
