The Real-Time Enterprise
These systems cannot satisfy the requirements of a real-time enterprise because:
•
They are fragmented; they offer no single view of the business.
•
The many queries of the different databases required in a zero latency
environment reduce performance to unacceptable levels.
•
They are unable to handle the large amount of historical data required for zero
latency.
The solution, shown in Figure 1-2, is called a real-time solution because information
latency within the business environment is reduced to almost zero. Instead of
communicating directly with one another over a network, the diverse operational
systems communicate through a central hub. The existing systems are left intact, and
the ZLE framework is placed “on top of” these systems to integrate them into the real-
time enterprise environment.
