Decision Support
In this figure, as the business grows, the real-time solution is expanded to include an
additional Integrity NonStop server and services.
A flexible real-time solution should allow a business to purchase only as much
hardware as it needs initially and to add components to the existing hardware to match
the growth of the applications. And it should not impose a performance penalty as you
add hardware increments. For example, adding twice as many processors should
provide twice as much performance for your applications. As you will see in later
sections, the scalability of the SQL/MX database and Integrity NonStop server makes
these things possible.
Decision Support
A real-time solution must be able to support the decision support and data mining
needs of a business. The HP implementation of the data store can provide this
support. A real-time data store contains current and integrated information that cannot
be found in a traditional corporate data warehouse. The data store can be queried
directly using industry-standard decision support and business intelligence tools.
Figure 2-5 on page 2-15 shows a typical decision support environment. In this
environment, information is extracted from databases and used to make strategic
company decisions. In a ZLE framework, the information can be routed back into the
real-time core and used to enrich data in the data store or as it passes through the
core to other real-time applications. It can be used to add models and rules generated
by data mining tools into the real-time core. The figure shows the flow of information
from the local systems, through the real-time hub to the data warehouse, and back to
the hub.
