plug-in card (PIC)
plug-in card (PIC). A replaceable component used in some ServerNet adapters to provide a
hardware option for the adapter.
PMB. See processor and memory board (PMB)
.
PMCU. See power monitor and control unit (PMCU)
.
PMF CRU. See processor multifunction (PMF) CRU
.
Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP). A data communications protocol that provides a standard
method of encapsulating Transmission Control Protocol over Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
information over point-to-point links. The TSM package uses PPP to provide TCP/IP
communication over a dial-up connection.
port. (1) A data channel that connects to other devices or computers. (2) A connector to
which a cable can be attached. The system transmits and receives data or requests
through ports on ServerNet adapters and processor multifunction (PMF) customer-
replaceable units (CRUs). A port is also called a connector. (3) The entrance or physical
access point (such as a connector) to a computer, multiplexer, device, or network where
signals are supplied, extracted, or observed.
power interface board (PIB). A board mounted on the bulkhead located behind the power
supplies in a Himalaya S7x000 processor enclosure. The PIB provides electrical
connection between the power supplies and DC power cables.
power monitor and control unit (PMCU). A field-replaceable unit (FRU) that connects the
batteries to the DC power distribution bus in a Himalaya S-series enclosure and provides
a means of disconnecting the batteries for powering off the system. The PMCU also
provides a means for the service processor (SP) to diagnose the condition of the
batteries, fans, and power supplies; to regulate the voltage supplied to the fans; and to
provide the interface to the group ID switches and service light-emitting diodes (LEDs).
There are two PMCUs per group, one for each of the two DC power distribution buses.
power shelf. On Himalaya S7x000 servers, an assembly residing below the chassis consisting
of power supplies and supporting circuitry that provides DC power to the enclosure.
power supply. (1) In Himalaya S7000 processor enclosures and in I/O enclosures, the
component on the processor multifunction (PMF) customer-replaceable unit (CRU) or
the I/O multifunction (IOMF) CRU that converts standard AC line voltage into the DC
voltages needed by the group components in the enclosure. (2) In Himalaya S7x000
processor enclosures, the component located in the power shelf that converts standard
AC line voltage into DC voltage and delivers it to the S7x000 processor multifunction
(PMF) customer-replaceable units (CRUs), which in turn supply the DC voltages needed
by the group components in the enclosure.
