K-Series Information
Each subsystem requires the use of one or more hardware communications controller
boards to control physical lines into communications subnetworks. OSI/TS uses
standard Compaq communications controllers to implement subnetwork protocols. For
attaching Compaq systems to OSI subnetworks, use the communications hardware listed
in Table 1-1
.
S-Series Information
Communications controllers cannot migrate to G-series systems. Special adapters and
the ServerNet wide area network (SWAN) concentrator replace D-series
communications controllers. ServerNet adapters can be CRUs or FRUs, or they can be
integrated into other types of CRUs such as the MFIOB on PMF or IOMF CRUs.
ServerNet adapters provide the following features:
An interface between the ServerNet SAN and a particular I/O bus, such as Ethernet
or SCSI
Support for one or more ServerNet addressable controllers (SACs)
The following adapters and communication devices are currently available for G-series
releases:
ATM ServerNet Adapter (ATM3SA)
Asynchronous Wide Area Network (AWAN) Access Servers 3883, 3884 and 3885
Ethernet 4 ServerNet Adapter (E4SA)
Fast Ethernet ServerNet Adapter (FESA)
Multifunction I/O Board (MFIOB) integrated into PMF CRUs and IOMF CRUs
3886 AWAN Servers
6763 Common Communications ServerNet Adapter
